So the move has begun! As we needed to hire a trailer to move the bike itself, I’ve just grabbed a few of the spares that are with it.
Everything fitted nicely, a gentle drive home to make sure nothing rolled around and got oil in the car!
As you can see from some of the photos below, the barrel and head are the 8 stud type.
This engine had issues with the barrel splitting between the studs and the exhaust valve. This was fixed in later engines which had 9 studs, and is the type that is currently on the bike. In later years they released a 10 stud head as 9 studs obviously wasn’t sufficient. You can see below the damage this issue can cause. This one has been repaired though, but very doubtful we’ll use this. We needed the engine for other parts!
Everything is in good order considering the length of time it has all been lying in a garage. Pistons are still in the barrel and to my surprise moved quite freely. Crank moves freely and seems to be complete. Box full of assorted bits, rockers, followers etc. We do have a pair of unused boneville high-lift cams which we will use in the finished engine, need to hunt them out!
